Director of Manufacturing Operations

Description

Sunfolding is passionate about creating real and lasting change in the energy landscape by rethinking solar technology.  We are seeking a Director of Manufacturing Operations to oversee our manufacturing partners and the supply chain that supports them.  This is an executive position for an experienced Manufacturing and Supply Chain professional. This role will be expected to contribute to corporate and operational strategy, cost and quality management and to create a value chain to deliver the Customer’s needs on time, at cost and without surprise.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated internal and external executive-level management skills, will have set effective long-term strategies and shown the drive to roll up their sleeves and execute the dailies it takes to make this vision a reality.

Position will report to VP of Product.

Essential functions & responsibilities:

  • Manage Sunfolding’s supply chain at the executive relationship and day-to-day execution levels.  With the supporting SCM team issue PO’s, plan production timelines and inbound/outbound logistics.
  • Negotiate, draft, and manage contracts to achieve target costs and ensure supply.
  • Own the Sunfolding product Material Cost of Goods Sold (MCOGS) model, cost reduction results and develop long-term cost reduction plans.
  • Coordinate with the product design teams on introducing lower cost designs into the supply chain, develop the most cost-effective purchasing strategies, manage all aspects of key supplier cost structures and provide technical recommendations for continual improvements to both product and manufacturing process cost structures.
  • Drive the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process for Sunfolding.  Execute the resulting company operating plan. With the Supply Chain Team translate the operating plan into purchases orders and forecasts for each supplier.
  • In coordination with Customer Project Managers optimize the product delivery logistics for cost and service levels.  Optimize inbound logistics at all levels of the supply chain to minimize inventory, transportation costs and to accelerate the material flow.
  • Define key internal and external process indicators and establish appropriate operational goals.  Maintain supplier relationship maps, data sheets and score cards. Coordinate regular business, technical and quality reviews to for Supplier accountability and provide a communications forum for all Sunfolding functional areas.
  • Contribute to overall corporate strategy and direction with the Sunfolding leadership team.  Effectively collaborate with Finance Team for cash planning, budgeting, and financial oversight.
  • Using a team framework at the executive level tackle and solve start-up and scalability issues that will require resourcefulness, creative thinking, collaboration, often with less than complete information
  • Other tasks as will be assigned as need to ensure the success of the organization.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • A history of effective performance at the Executive level in manufacturing, supply chain or factory general management.  The length of the experience is less relevant than your ability to demonstrate where, why and how you were successful and to connect that to the needs of Sunfolding.
  • Significant experience with high volume metal fabrication, plastic molding methods and quality control processes in either a factory management or production management role.
  • First class negotiation skills and an excellent understanding of the legal dimension of contracts, plus the experience of driving supply contract negotiations to closure.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in contract management of high volume supply chains that include a significant commodity element to the product set.
  • Detail-oriented with a systems outlook. Good analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communications skills across all levels of the internal and Supplier organizations.
  • BS/BA degree in Engineering, Materials Management or Operations Analysis.  An MS or MBA considered a plus.

NPI Project Manager

Description

Position will own the schedule and risk for multiple projects within Sunfolding’s Product Realization team. Responsibilities will include coordinating schedule, budget, resources and task management across the product realization team and often the wider company.

Position will report to VP Product.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Experience managing/organizing multiple simultaneous projects
  • Familiarity with critical chain project management
  • Effective communication one- on- one and to a group
  • A sharp science/engineering background
  • A love for solving all types of problems
  • An ability to work collaboratively with many types of people
  • An ability to construct business cases and prioritize based on them
  • Familiar with/a believer in product development processes and new product introduction
  • Naturally looks for root causes in all problems and finds ways to address them
  • Methodical execution, self-driven motivation
  • Previous experience in startup with hardware products
  • Ability to travel as needed to execute on project

Bonus if candidate has:

  • Previous solar experience
  • Experience in lean principles
  • Understanding of the theory of constraints

  • Track and plan for risks identified in product development programs

Quality and Reliability Lead

Description

As the Lead of the Quality and Reliability Team, you and your team will be responsible for quantifying and communicating the quality and reliability of all product components.

Working closely with the Product Management and Product Development teams, your team will define verification, validation, and develop reliability test and inspection methodologies, and perform tests.

In addition, you will collaborate with suppliers to determine appropriate quality standards, quality processes and documentation to ensure manufacturing quality.

When necessary, your team will perform failure analysis and work with relevant teams and suppliers to implement corrective actions.

This position will report to the VP of Product.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate some or all of the following: 

  • Creativity in problem solving
  • Comfort and interest in managing and providing direction for team members
  • Written and oral communication skills to convey information to technical and non-technical colleagues and external audiences
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and control processes
  • Familiar with DOE, FMEA, and SPC
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine product testing requirements
  • Manage verification, validation, and quality inspection of all product components to product requirements

  • Prioritize lab space and plan of budget required for test equipment and external resources
  • Communicate and coordinate with other Sunfolding teams to prioritize qualification tests
  • Work with external test labs and resources required for verification and validation of product
  • Establishing group practices for test data and test procedure documentation, formatting, and archiving

Reliability Engineer

Description

As a Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for quantifying and communicating the reliability of all product components.

You will collaborate with your team and the Product Development team to define test standards, develop test methodologies, and execute and perform tests.

This position will report to the Quality and Reliability Lead.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Creativity in problem solving
  • Understanding of accelerated lifetime testing and failure analysis
  • Written and oral communication skills to convey information to technical and non-technical colleagues and external audiences
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis
  • Knowledge of mechanics of materials
  • Understanding of polymer properties, test methods and characterization

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Develop test methods, design test fixtures, and determine acceptance criteria for component qualification tests
  • Design and create hardware and software to automate appropriate tests
  • Analyze data and write test reports and/or whitepapers communicating results
  • Perform failure analysis and determine corrective actions
  • Design and perform experiments to support engineering optimize new designs
  • Work with external test labs and resources required for verification and validation of product

Education & Experience                      

  • 2+ years of experience in reliability engineering
